How to Enjoy Your Summer on a Weight Health Journey!

Share it

Memorial Day has come and gone, and we are nearly two weeks into June! Someone recently, “is it too late to get my summer body?” My answer came right from a video collab I did with a few WW creators last week: EVERY BODY IS A SUMMER BODY! One thing I always try to emphasize to my followers is that we are on borrowed time from the minute we’re born, so enjoy the moments, wear the bathing suit, take the picture, and make the memories! It is possible to reach and maintain your weight health goals during the summer season, and I’m here to tell you how!

So summer is packed with activities, right? It’s wedding season, the kids are out of school, graduation parties, barbecues, pool parties, fourth of July. All of this is celebrated with food and drinks! It can be very easy to get discouraged with the anxiety of managing a “diet” during this busy time of year, but let me tell you: ITS DOABLE. As I always say, “it’s all about balance, baby!” It might take a little effort and a lot of self control, but you can learn to enjoy your summer without overindulging and giving up completely, and here’s how:

Take advantage of zero point foods when cooking at home.

It’s summer, and fresh fruit and vegetables are in season and taste better than ever! For breakfast, I love to start my day off with protein. If you watch my what I eat in a day videos, you know I’m addicted to eggs and Cavender’s! Make veggie packed omelets when making a fresh breakfast, or you can meal prep egg bites with lots of fresh veggies like peppers, onions, and spinach! Sprinkle a little cheese on there, too, go crazy! Top with fresh salsa or spicy hot sauce to jazz up the flavor. For lunch, opt for a low carb tortilla, some lean poultry, crisp lettuce, onion, and fresh tomato for an amazing wrap! Dip in 1 point tzatziki sauce by Boar’s Head! For snacks, I love mini sweet peppers with freshly made salsa for a flavorful, zero-point snack that lets me feel like I’m “getting away with something.” Freshly grilled vegetables, crisp summer salads, grilled, marinated chicken breast and shrimp with fresh lemon are all yummy dinner options that are zero points! For dessert, have some fresh fruit with either Tajin seasoning (a chili lime seasoning my favorite creator, Auntie Amanda, put me onto!) or some zero sugar whipped cream/Cool Whip. I also love Reko pizzelles as a 1 point cookie that gives waffle cone vibes. I like to put some zero-sugar Cool Whip between two and freeze for the best 3 point ice cream sandwich ever.

Learn to control your indulgences.

So you’re at a barbecue and your sister made her deliciously famous Crack Dip with extra lard and 500% sodium. You’re addicted to that dip, and you only get to eat it once a year at Aunt Slappy’s Annual Backyard Booze Fest. Well, dammit, HAVE SOME! And have some drinks, too! Enjoy the things you like mindfully. Chew your food very well before swallowing. You’re allowed to take a few bites of stuff, but you don’t need to eat half a cup of Crack Dip. Save room and points for dinner, and drinks/dessert! It doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing but you should consider this-for-that.

Navigate the menu

When other people are doing the cooking, do your best to make healthy choices that still taste good. A piece of well marinated chicken breast on the grill is one of my favorite things to eat, and it’s zero points! Keep in mind that chicken breast, chicken thighs, shrimp, fish, and turkey burgers are all low point, delicious options at barbecues and summer parties. If you know someone is grilling, BYOM! You’re probably already bringing booze in your cooler, so throw some tukey burgers in there too and bring them along. Us Weight Watchers sometimes sneak in our own tortillas to Mexican restaurants; nobody will bat an eye if you ask them to cook you a turkey burger at a barbecue. When you’re in a buffet-style situation at a party, fill your plate halfway up with vegetables, do ¼ of th plate as starch, and ¼ of the plate protein. Opt for light vinegarette dressings rather than creamy dressings like bleu cheese. Choose the pasta salad over the macaroni salad. For those who don’t know the difference, pasta salad is vinegarette based, macaroni salad is mayo based!

The most important thing: BOOZE!

We’re drinking more in summer, at least I know my followers are! Drinking on patios, on boats, by the pool, in the backyard, we’re boozin it up in the summer time! You know how much I love a 3-point Sunny D Vodka seltzer or four. They’re a great option when drinking in the warm weather! They’re low points, zero sugar, delicious, and provide a nice little buzz. Another thing I love to drink in the summer is a white wine spritzer, and they’re only 2 points and so refreshing! I take a wine glass and fill it with ice and add 2 oz of Matua Sauvignon blanc. I fill the rest of the glass with San Pellegrino and garnish with a lemon wedge. It’s a very light little cocktail in the summer and it’s nice because you can have a couple more drinks since there’s less alcohol!

This summer is going to be so much fun. I can’t wait to share more recipes, tips, and tricks with you for your best skinny summer!
